Days Of Summer

How can time go by so quickly??  I can’t believe it has been 3 weeks since I posted here.  I keep hearing that song in my head, “Video killed the Radio Star” but I substitute, “Instagram killed my blog!”  I love Instagram.  It is quick and easy and the feedback is almost immediate.  It is a huge community of homeschool Moms, at least my Instagram is.  But I don’t want to desert my blog.  I have had this for over 6 years and I want to continue to post.

After this amount of time I just get overwhelmed.  What is ‘important’ enough to post here.  What have we done with our days that are ‘post worthy’.  Not a lot really.  We have spent huge amounts of time at the pool.  I got Keilee a waterproof case for her iPhone.  It was $10 and it works fine.  It was a necessity after a day where I got really sick at the pool and she was at the other end of the park with friends.  I texted her and called her about 31 times and she didn’t answer because she was in the water.

We also went to Jack Daniel’s Distillery with friends.  It is a beautiful drive to Lynchburg Tennessee which is about an hour from here.  it is a totally free tour and very interesting.  See the safe?  Jack Daniels tried to open it one morning and had forgotten the combination.  He kicked it and hurt his toe which got infected and killed him!!!  Moral of the story…Temper, Temper!

Keilee has spent her days reading, Art Journaling, playing with Augustus who HAS to go soon but we so hate to make the call.  She is doing a notebook about The Presidents.  She is using Notebook Publisher and creating all her pages herself.  I won a LIFETIME Membership to this last year and we both love it.  She is her gymnastics teacher’s assistant in an all summer long gymnastics camp which she loves.  We have gone on rides in the country,  and played tons of board games.  She has planned out her entire 9th [9th???!!!!!!!] grade year which I will blog about later.  She has helped with a Drama Camp and spent tons of time with her friends.  It has been a very good Summer so far.

We go to the Farmer’s Market each week and come home with tons of yummy produce and Sunflowers.  I just love Sunflowers!!

2014 JULY

Keilee and Emma wanted to camp out in the back yard so I borrowed a tent from Katherine.  It was surprisingly easy to put up.  She put twinkle lights, tons of pillows and blankets, her bean bag chair, tables and more.  They had a fire and roasted marshmallows.  They listened to ghost stories on YouTube because they didn’t know any!  They watched scary movies on her Macbook in the tent.  I opened my window in the bedroom so I could hear them.  I honestly didn’t think they would stay all night but they did.  They were singing songs from Wicked at 11 pm.  Many times during the night I sat out on the porch to make sure no one was murdering them in their sleep.  We don’t have a fence and I am THAT Mom.  They did sleep with Nomad so it made me feel better.  It was Nomad’s first time sleeping outside!  They all made it all night long.

We plan on ‘starting school’ on August 4th.  I have ordered all the books she needs.  She has made a list of school supplies sales and which stores have the best deals.  A lot of places have their sales on Monday so we are ready.  I am still laid off but we are good.  We did have a 2 week job so Stan sent me some money.  Thankfully it doesn’t take much for us.  The summer is passing so quickly.  It seems like it just began yesterday!!

  1. Wow, now that is camping in style! (And don’t be ashamed, I am THAT mom, too!)

The underwater photos are really cool.

We visited the Jack Daniels brewery last year! It was fun to take the tour, and I remember the story about the safe.

Looks like you are making the most of summer. Enjoy!

  2. I’m so glad to see that you are having such a fun summer! And don’t you dare give up your blog! I follow you on instagram, but I really enjoy stopping by here and getting the details, and hearing about your life with your girl. 🙂 It’s hard to keep up with sometimes…I know. I haven’t posted much in recent months, but I know it will be something that I can look back on later and remember all the thoughts, concerns and victories over the years. I hope your summer continues to be beautiful!

  3. What a lovely summer you are both having. I love the photos you took under the water – very cool!
Keilee’s scrapbooking pages are wonderful. Thanks to you and her we are enjoying doing a similar thing whilst working our way through Proverbs 31. The girls just love this new way of expressing themselves!

  4. Oh my, it will be hard to let Augustus go! My kids used to love to rough it out in the backyard just like that too, except they would sleep on the trampoline so the coyotes wouldn’t get them! I was always a nervous wreck and never slept at all on those nights! I’ll be interested to see what Keilee has set up for her self! Good to see you again, Karen!

  5. Looking forward to seeing what 9th grade will look like in your house. Did you decide to go with North Star Geography? I kept thinking that if you were maybe we could use technology (Skype and a shared blog) so Keilee and Miss 13 could share their work and sort of learn together. But then I realised you would be starting in August or September – just when Miss 13 would be winding down for the year and unlikely to be keen on taking on any additional formal work 🙁

Looks like you’ve been doing plenty. If you go to IG only I will have to get an account – and I’m not really a photo taker! Love the story of Jack Daniels. Reminds me of my brother when he was a teen. He was told to mow the lawns and clearly didn’t want to so gave the mower a mighty kick. Toe wasn’t broken but he was limping for several weeks after.

Love the tent and the art journal pages too.

  6. I’m glad you blogged, too.
I am not even close to considering giving up my blog, even though it’s been up since 2005, and if I can do, you can, too. Dammit. 🙂

So much fun you guys are having… life is good and you seem so happy.

I think we need to see some pictures of Augustus.

  7. You know I understand 100% about blog vs. IG. I found a very cool way to publish your Instagram photos into photo book but it does not include comments. I think the day I find a company that will publish with comments, I will say goodbye to blogging. I really only do it for Grace, since she reads our blog books every week.

I’m excited we are starting our girls’ 9th grade years on the same day. It is going to be an exciting year!

  8. What a wonderful looking summer it has been for you both. I’ve been missing your posts too. I’m happy to see and read more about what has been going on with you two. Keilee and her friend were brave to sleep outside all night, along with Nomad. I can’t say that I’ve ever done that or plan to either 🙂 I’m excited to see what she has planned for 9th grade. I was just thinking the other day how I remember pictures of Keilee starting 7th grade and thinking that was so far in the future for us. Now Amber is starting 7th grade. I guess I won’t even pretend that 9th grade is that far away now. Have a good week!

  9. What a fantastic summer you all are having. I am that mom, too. We start school on Monday ~ Yikes!
    Blessings, Dawn

  10. Wow. What a beautiful summer. I am so glad you posted because I was really beginning to worry about you guys. I look forward to seeing your posts each week, and it is always a disappointment when I don’t see one. We have been enjoying lots of swimming here, too…at the beach, in the backyard pool, at the community pool. Her journal pages are amazing and I still can’t believe how she saved the squirrel. You have one amazing daughter…but then you know that, don’t you?

  11. I am so glad to see a post from you. This morning I was frantically looking for an email on this blog to contact you to make sure all was well. I miss your weekly postings when they are not there. Augustus looks great in the pic. I thought we would be in a similar situation with baby birds this past week. Grace was all gung ho to raise them and at that moment I thought of you guys raising little Augustus. I am eager to hear about what she has chosen for her 9th grade year. We just finished up yesterday with choices for Grace’s 10th grade year. Glad to hear you guys are well and having a great summer. Talk with you soon.
    Blessings
    Diane
