Alabama Snow

It finally snowed here.  Really snowed!!  We got between 9-10″ and as of today, Saturday, it is still here.  It started Wednesday around noon and snowed until 11:00 PM.

It was magical and beautiful and something that happens so rarely here.

We went out several times Wednesday and Wednesday night took a midnight walk.  I know it is so common place to so many people but to us it was just unbelievable.

Nomad had a blast too.

The first day I had to do a photo shoot with Keilee.  She put on her tutu and my old black leather jacket from the 80’s.  This jacket is a replica of the jacket George Michael wore in “Gotta Have Faith” and I thought I was too cool when I wore it.

Thursday was “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” day.  Keilee built it all by herself with me giving her a quick “Snowman 101” class.  She didn’t know you had to start with a ball and roll it.

By Friday we were both ready for it to go away but it is still here today.  I love snow, and love the beauty of it but I don’t think I could stand a winter where the ground was mostly white all the time!

“I love snow for the same reason I love Christmas: It brings people together while time stands still. Cozy couples lazily meandered the streets and children trudged sleds and chased snowballs. No one seemed to be in a rush to experience anything other than the glory of the day, with each other, whenever and however it happened.” ~Rachel Cohn, Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares

  1. What weird weather we’re having across the states, huh? February was the coolest & snowiest on record here! Our average temperature was around 3 degrees! :sigh: I think we’re all ready for spring to come! Despite all the snow, we haven’t had good snowman-making! Since it’s so cold, the snow has been powdery and light, not sticking together. Great snowman!

  2. I just read an article on the local what-passes-for-news website. That article told me that Portland Oregon just had the warmest winter on record. I am so glad you got the snow and I didn’t.

The black leather jacket is great. 🙂

  3. I for one am sick of it and like Christy, I am not looking forward to the mud it will bring this spring (especially with a puppy). It’s March and it is showing no sign of letting up. We are in for a storm today, one Wednesday and there is rumblings of something on Thursday which could derail our travel plans…..

  4. I love snow too. We don’t get it very often so make the most of it when we do. It always brings back memories of when we lived in Canada. We didn’t have a car and pushing two little kids in a stroller through several inches of snow for months at a time did get tiring. It was still beautiful though – at least until it started to melt in March – then everything was just a muddy mess.

  5. So glad you all got snow! We loved it too. Nomad and Boomer (our dog) would having jumping contests in the snow if they ever met.
    Blessings, Dawn

  6. I’m so glad you had such a great time in your snow. Keilee has so much joy in everything she does. I love it!

It’s snowing here right now! We have been upgraded from 3 inches to 6-7! It is magical and lovely, but you’re right about it getting old. Some years when we get a lot of snow and the ground is white all winter it gets tiring. Mainly because it’s not really white all winter, but gray and yucky, then it melts some and refreezes into hard lumps.

  7. You guys got much more than we did. Our final tally was around 5 inches and most of it was gone by the next afternoon. I think the storm fizzled after passing through Alabama. The most one area of Georgia got as 7-8 inches. I was ready for it to be gone. Spring cannot come to soon.
    Blessings

  8. Your daughter is so incredibly beautiful and the snow just showcases it! I adore snow but we really on had a small amount which lasted less than a day. Hope you are well and keeping warm during your big freeze!
