Giving Thanks…

We took the week off from formal lesson plans.† Thank goodness we did because I got a sinus infection and was pretty much useless all week!

Kei cooked dinner one night all by herself.† She wouldn’t even let me come into the kitchen.† She made baked chicken breasts with ginger marinade, pasta with spinach and green peppers with a cream sauce and cheese bread.† It was wonderful and she was so proud of herself.† I was proud of her too.

We watched a lot of TV, Gilmore Girls [our favorite show in the world], finished season 8 of Monk, watched Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, watched Pirates of the Caribbean [with my future son-in-law Johnny Depp], rented Grown-Ups which was silly but kinda cute, and the new Karate Kid.† Then Kei had to practice what she just watched.

Karate Kid....

Kei and I played with clay.† We started out with an Indian village, then switched to clay fairies, then to Santa’s village.

Kei played Webkinz a lot.† She loves Webkinz and plays daily for a week or so, then not for a month.†† She decorates and re-decorates her rooms.† She wants so badly for me to get a Webkinz so I can play with her.† I am thinking that is what she will get me for Christmas. 🙂

We spent Thanksgiving Day with Daddy and Marlene, Eddie, Heather, Seth and Katherine.† My head hurt so badly I couldn’t really enjoy all the delicious food.† :/† We brought leftovers home.

We have so much to be thankful for.† Wonderful friends, both near and far, old and new.† A wonderful family, a lifestyle that we both adore, an amazing church family, a lovely house, a crazy dog and each other.

Life is good.

And it is almost DECEMBER!!!!†† EEK!

Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.† ~W.T. Purkiser

  1. Grace got Kei’s blog comment and is lkioong forward to writing back to her. I think Grace still does not get the freedoms that homeschooling allows. So far we have tickets to see Wintuk in New York on a Wednesday. My planning allows us to take Friday’s for field trips. We can have playdates three afternoons a week, for more than the 20 minutes recess she would get in school. I am moving past nervousness and into excitement to begin. But until then I am going to relax, enjoy the remaining summer days and sleep late!

  2. I am thankful for your friendship too (yours and mine being the Far kind!). Though it doesn’t feel that farÖ more like you’re next door, with a really, really big puddle in between our housesÖ!

Kei is an amazing cook. Wowóshe cooked that AND that AND that??? Awesome! She rocks.

I hope you are feeling MUCH better now, Karen. Sending hugs!

  3. I love Ami’s comment that she is not raising children, she is raising competent adults. How very true. I am very impressed with Kei’s cooking ability. I think Lilah could feed our family but I am quite sure Grace would burn the house down! LOL. That has been one of my goals this fall, increasing their confidence in the kitchen and increasing their ability. They can now make darn good eggs, toast and coffee (yes…the coffee was totally selfish on my part!).

    Hope you are feeling better!

  4. Have you seen the Klutz book with the flower fairies? They’re easy to make and so darn cute.
I actually have an extra copy around here somewhere if you’d like it. Or rather if Kei would like it.

I hope your sinus infection clears up soon. I haven’t had one in years and years, but for some reason, after I had my first baby, I had eight in the first year of his life. We’re talking crawling around on the floor pain… standing up made it feel like the top of my head was coming off!

Love that Kei cooks and made such a lovely dinner. I’ve said all along that I’m not raising children, I am trying to raise competent adults. Cooking is definitely part of that.

I think I ramble a lot when I try to leave comments after I first wake up in the morning.
You can just ignore about half of it if you want.
    🙂
