The Week of Living Slower…

We had plans to slow things down this week.† And for the most part we did.

I had a great idea to move ALL MY PICTURES from the C: drive to the empty D: drive.† The D drive got corrupted with ALL MY PICTURES on it.† Every picture I have ever made of Keilee, my Mom and more.† I cried for days.† My brother came to get my computer to see if his friend could fix it.† I finally got it back today.† He was NOT able to grab the pictures off but he assures me they are on there.† I will just have to take it somewhere and let them do it.† That will have to wait because I am laid off for 3-4 weeks.† I had a lot of the pictures backed up but none from the last couple of years.† It honestly made me physically sick.† And 4 days with no computer is excruciating.† Even with my iPhone and iPad.

We went on an adventure last Sunday.† My brother Eddie took us up into Tennessee.† We explored some awesome graveyards.† Eddie loves old graveyards and so do we.† These pictures are Keilee’s because I LOST ALL OF MY PICTURES!

As we were riding around in the hills of Tennessee we saw the coolest thing.† It was a Farmer’s Market ran on the honor system.† Once again, I had tons of pictures and they were lost.† My favorite sign said, “FREE TO WIDOWS”.† Isn’t that amazing?† There were all kinds of vegetables, fruits and eggs and a box to drop your money in.† I just loved it.

Keilee has been embroidering a lot this week.† I have always wanted her to do this but she wasn’t interested until now.† She has made some jean shorts and is now working on a pair of jeans.

Kei got this really cool kit for Christmas, I think 2 years ago!, and got it out this week. It is a Digital Recording Lab. I was reading the instructions and seriously it made my head hurt.† It was one of those things that I would have had to sit down and concentrate to figure out what it was talking about.† Thankfully she didn’t need my help!† It has all these wires and different schematics that you hook the wires up to which causes different things to happen.† She played with it for a couple of hours.† She even figured out different combinations than the book had.† I was outside reading and she kept calling me in to look at what she had discovered!

We also went to Pt. Mallard this week.† I am so glad we were able to get a pass this summer.† As hot as it has been it is pretty much the only place outside to get cool.† Although Keilee and I do spend a huge amount of time outside, 100∞+ temps or not.

Speaking of spending time outside, we did that too.† We read on the hammock and played with Nomad and just chilled on a blanket at twilight.

Our town has an annual 4th of July celebration each year.† The last 2 years we have volunteered with our church to run the Children’s Activities tent.† We always have a blast doing this.† We also get free passes to Pt. Mallard.† We have season passes but we wanted to get them so we could invite some of our friends to come along with us for a day of swimming.

My favorite resource is “Digital Recording Lab”.† This is wonderful for anyone who has an interest in all things electrical.† From Amazon’s site:† The Digital Recording Lab opens the door to the circuitry of sound. This unique, versatile design lets you build 59 different electronic circuit projects on just one console. You can record sounds and play them back, change your voice to sound like monster or robot, set an alarm clock and security system, even make an electronic parrot repeat what you say. PLUS, the spring coil construction makes wiring the projects simple and safe no tools or soldering required. Step-by-step directions and diagrams make advanced electronic concepts snap.

Next week is looking busy but full of things we are really looking forward to.† FREE things.† It seems almost every other summer I am broke during a month or so.† You know, no matter how I worry and fret, God always seems to take care of us.† We always make it.† God is so good.

  1. Karen, I’m so sorry about your photos. I really, really, really hope you get them back, and soon.

(Plus I don’t know how I missed this post, but I did. That’s really strange. And now my ‘so sorry’ is a whole week late!)

Now I want to write a proper, interesting comment about all your adventures and the many happy moments I see hereÖbut my brain is shouting “It’s 2am! Go to Bed!” So I’ll just say, Hey, I’m thinking of you and Kei. And I’m thinking of how many lovely moments you’ve shared here in the last two years and how they are still here at least, in this space, for you to look at, while you wait for the very clever person to find and get those other beautiful moments out of that D drive. Love to you both!

  2. I lost my pictures a few years ago and you’d think I would keep them all backed up now, but I still don’t!! CRAZY

My daughter loves to go ice skating at Pt Mallard and I love the jalapeno poppers at the snack stand. HA HA

  3. Oh friend I am so sorry this happened to you. I can’t even imagine. I would be devastated! I will pray that when you are able to get the computer fixed that it does get fixed. Sounds like you guys had a pretty eventful week!

  4. So sorry about your pictures, Karen! I do hope you are able to get them back. Even with that, it looks like a beautiful week:)

I love that you two are never bored and make the most of any situation!

Love Kei’s embroidery. Can’t wait to show the girls:) Also, that Digital Recording Lab looks really fun. We’ll have to check that out!

And you are so right…God is good. He will provide! Hugs and blessings to you both:)

  5. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Yes, we live about 2 hours south of Decatur. We almost went to Pt. Mallard this month. but like you we decided to slow down some. We had a busy busy June.

In 2 weeks, the kids will be participating in a theater camp and I am foreseeing them having a great time like Keilee does. 🙂

I am sorry about your photos. I pray God will lead you to someone who knows what they are doing and all of your photos get retrieved. 🙂

  6. I am so sorry to hear about your photos! That would make me sick too. If it makes you feel better I had a similar experience a few years ago. I never got the photos off. Now I back everything up.

I was going to buy Snap Circuits but I am going to look into the digital recording lab, Piper loves to sing, so it may be the better option.

I got the tt books back today.

  7. Oh, Karen, I feel for you on the photos! When my laptop got a Trojan last year and shut down I was so upset as we hadn’t made CDs of the last 2 years of photos! Fortunately Best Buy was able to retrieve everything and made back-ups for me. Don’t lose hope because those experts usually can get those things back again!

(And I am feeling better, but I wish I could “milk” the back a little longer so I can be lazy a few more days! LOL But there’s things to do!)

Keilee is such a creative young lady! Her embroidery looks greats! I’ve seen on-line during my random surfs some people selling the stuff on jeans for good money!

  8. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that your photos will be saved.
And if that was a week of living slower, no wonder you’re tired. 🙂

  9. Karen… I KNOW you will get those pictures back, but it doesn’t make it any less upsetting that they are gone right now.

When you take pictures on your iPhone, are they backed up in the iCloud? This is my saving grace – that and we have TWO external backups on our computer. I’m paranoid about losing things. Technology can be so confusing.

I think you just need a big hug this week… so here: ((((((((hug)))))))))))

  10. I “lost” all of my children’s pictures from my second’s birth through 18 months of his growing and his big sister’s…BUT!!! My husband took it a few years later, when we could afford it, to a company in ATL specializing in clean room recovery. Everything was saved!
I enjoyed reading about the rest of you week. Your kids are very creative =)

  11. Oh Karen! I am so sorry about those photos! I would be physically sick too 🙁 I hope they can be recovered successfully!

You and Keilee always have such fun..I love reading about your adventures, even in a slow week 😀 We have some farm stands like that around here…not the free to widows part (which is lovely!), but the honor system part.

I need to plan some trips to old cemeteries…I think my girls would like that.

Love the embroidery!! Great job! The Digital Recording Lab reminds me of our Snap Circuits kit.

Thanks for linking up Karen. Happy weekend!!

  12. I am SO sorry about your photos! Your brother is right. Nothing is ever “gone” from computers. I pray that whoever you bring it to will be able to get all of your precious pictures from it. A few years back, a lady at the local photo shop was helping me print off some photos and “accidentally” hit the delete button on my camera. I was devastated. There were 700+ pics on there from vacation and the summer that I hadn’t yet put on the computer (boy did I learn my lesson there. Now I do it every night) I think I cried right there in the photo department. She did send off the memory card to somewhere and they were able to recover 99% of my photos. So, there is hope! 🙂 I will pray hard. Let us know!

What a beautiful week! I love the old headstones (what a history lesson that must be) and the farmer’s market sounds amazing, especially the “free to widows” part. That just made my heart sing, that there are still wonderful, honest people out there, who are generous to those who are in need. 🙂 How you and your daughter just enjoy each other makes me smile. It is really so very sweet!

I need to take lessons from you and just slow down and enjoy every little moment more. I think that will happen more once we’re back in our own house. Don’t get me wrong, I love my parents, but my mom is one of the generation whose mentality is that if you are sitting still, you are being idle or lazy. You most always be up and doing something– straightening, cleaning, washing, etc. It is getting very tiring both physically and emotionally. It has put a significant toll on my marriage, as well. 🙁 My hubby, despite all of his health problems, is trying hard to get our house done. It’s just hard with him now working 6-7 days a week. Oh well. It should get done soon, I hope.

Have a great weekend, my friend! Keep cool (it’s supposed to be a scorcher here today– I worry about my husband out working in this heat) and continue to enjoy your beautiful daughter! We have to find a way to meet up someday. Once our house is done, you are officially invited and we’ll give you the royal tour of Philly! :-)))

    Many blessings,
    Lisa
