In Like a Lion…

Some weeks I just feel like I have nothing much to say.† This week is one of those weeks.† It isn’t that we didn’t do anything because there is always things going on.† I find myself taking fewer pictures than I usually do.† And 99% of them are with my iPhone.

That being said here is our week.

The BIG NEWS is I got Keilee an iPad Mini.† Now we have an iPad but we were always fighting over it.† I find myself using my iPad more and more and my PC less and less.† Her laptop had completely stopped working and it was on its last leg anyway so we talked about it and she decided she would rather have a Mini than a computer.† I tried to talk her into a regular iPad but she wanted the Mini.† She LOVES it.† This is the most expensive single thing I have ever bought her.† I was so happy that I could do this for her.† I think since it is ‘hers’ she likes it more.† She can set up Instagram and Pinterest and things like that.† She has been a PINNING FOOL this week.† She started out with 7 pins from the account she had months ago to almost 300!!

Lots and lots of play practice.† Show Week is next week and we will both be a little glad for a break.† We just always have so much going on and practice 3 nights a week is a lot.† Keilee’s role is very cute.† She is playing a very annoying wedding circulation planner.† She is also very uncomfortable in the tighter of the 2 dresses.† She NEVER wears things like this!† The boy in the picture is the same age as her!† It is so obvious that girls mature earlier than boys for the most part. 🙂

2013 March7Keilee did so much artsy sort of things this week.† She goes in cycles, never picks it up for weeks and then does nothing else.

2013 March2

After we had sliced an avocado, Keilee looked up how to grow the pit and decided to try. We don’t really live in a warm enough climate but she still wanted to try.† We can already see changes.

2013 March5Here are some snapshots of some of our week:

2013 March61.† Keilee is working on a 20th Century Lapbook. She showed me how she added her own description of Hitler.
2.† Co-op.† This has been such a positive experience for us both.† Keilee has got the best friends there and they always have such a ball.† The girls are all within 1 year of each other.† Their teacher was sick last Monday so they made a video with Video Star.† I was in the next room and all I heard was laughter and singing and talking.
3. Coding† She is working through the Computer Science classes on Khan Academy.† Very cool.† Already she is doing things I have no clue about.
4. A SteamPunk dollhouse she is working on.† This mess would have driven me crazy at one time. Now I just take deep breaths….

What we are watching:
Keilee found this show called “My Fair Wedding” that she likes. It’s a’ight.† I don’t love ‘wedding’ shows. † We are also watching “Castle” our favorite show and “Once Upon a Time”.† Those are really the only 2 series shows that we watch every week.† Keilee is always watching documentaries but I am not sure which ones she watched this week.† I also just got the first 2 discs of “7th Heaven” I never watched that show but we have heard or read about 3 references to it lately so I decided to check it out.

Keilee’s week:

  • Khan Academy
  • Lapbook of Modern History
  • Art Journaling
  • Lots of reading
  • Lots of Pinterest
  • Reading about Animals, Animals and did I mention Animals?
  • Working hard on a SteamPunk dollhouse she is making out of boxes.
  • Lots of Coding and Computer Science
  • Working on her ideas for a new Video channel she is a part of
  • Play Practice
  • Working on her script for “WonderGlass”
  • Watching “Mysteries In History” on Netflix [she really loves these]
  • She is working through this book I got on Amazon.† I had found the Teacher workbook at a thrift store jammed full of great resources so I ordered her the book. She reads the chapter and does the questions on her own.
  • At her Internship she watched a dog that was getting an abcess drained.† [Gross huh?]. She is still walking the dogs and doing lots of jobs around the clinic.† She even MOPPED the floor! She has never mopped a floor here!† She also made what we call “Doo-Doo Cookies” to take Friday.† She said they loved them.
  • She has watched several Crash Course videos.† We are HUGE fans of John and Hank Green.† I love† John Green.† If you haven’t checked out their YouTube channel I would highly recommend it.† One thing I love about John Green is he is a Christian. He actually wanted to be a Minister at one point in his life.
  • Knitting
  • Drawing on the iPad
  • Instagram.† I love Instagram.† One thing I love about it is how Keilee and I have both gotten to know my blog friends kids better.† I love seeing all of their pictures and seeing the dialogue that goes on between all these homeschooling girls all over the country.

I will leave you with a little Spring.† I am so ready for it, aren’t you?

Well I guess I had more to say than I thought.† How was your week?

  1. I know Keilee must be thrilled with her mini! My girls would be, for sure:) I agree with you about Instagram bringing the girls together- it’s been so fun for Abby. Molly doesn’t care too much, but she does look at my phone occasionally to see what’s going on…and she’s always available should I want to get her picture;)

Keilee looks beautiful in costume and so grown! I know you two will be ready for a little rest when the performances are over.

Thanks for recommending the Crash Course videos. I’d never heard of them but I know the girls will enjoy them:)

    Have a great week!

  2. And I thought we had a busy week. Wow! I just had a couple of days of free knitting time as Zak took himself off to his sisters for a couple of days. 🙂 Tomorrow will of course be a big catch up day. I grew an avacado from seed once. I had it on the window sill in the kitchen for months. It grew into a little tree which we then planted in a semi shady spot in the garden. I had no idea at the time that it would grow into a huge tree and when my hubby insisted it be moved, it died. 🙁 I was most upset but it was a little too close to the house. I think if you put it in a pot indoors it would still grow into a nice little tree. Don’t forget to bless it. Plants love blessings too. Hugs beautiful girls xoxoxoxox

  3. YAY for the iPad mini!! And yay for your great week. Am I right that some of what you’re reading is YA lit? That’s my absolute favorite thing to read right now, and it’s so cool because Sarah and I essentially overlap and both enjoy it. (Is that silly?)

  4. The iPad Mini is so cute! She must be thrilled. 🙂 It looks like you guys are so busy with fun stuff! Good luck with the play next week – we are just starting 3 day-per week rehearsals for a play here and I’m already worried about keeping up with the schedule!

And do you really have those beautiful flowers there already? We are still waiting for the snow to melt here. 🙂

  5. Your weeks always make me smile. Thanks for sharing on HammockTracks. And congrats for being able to make your girl so happy with an ipad mini.

  6. Oh, I want one! I want one! LOL She’s going to have so much fun with her iPad Mini! I’m happy with my laptop, but they do look really neat!

As always, a creative, fun week. How much of a break before the next play? LOL Acting is simply a part of her! 🙂

  7. yay for daffodils and spring being right around the corner!

It was great talking with you this week. Piper enjoyed talking to Kei as well 😉

I love all the creativity. Allie is working on a WWII project right now.

  8. I think it’s great for Keilee about the iPad mini 🙂 The girls’ cousin has one, and I was a bit worried that it would make them not like their new iPods, but they seem fine with it. It’s all good!
Keilee’s art work and all of her creative projects are great!
It’s funny that she was experimenting with the avocado pit…my girls did that just the other week…they did a dissection 😉

  9. Hi Karen
I am a fellow single unschooling mom to a 13 year old daughter Lexi. I work from home as partime online bank rep.(4 hours a day 5 days a week 1/2 of the hours have to be between 10 and 6. I have been homeschooling Lexi since Kindergarden. In the past few years we have gone more unschooleryish(new word!). This week for example She:
Read Out of My Mind By Sharon M Draper(Love)
Researched Cerebal Palsy and learned the many ways it can effect people(this also took blog-hunting looking at special needs mom blogs)
Researched the history of communication devices
Wrote a paper about how people with severe disablities are treated
Went to a presentation at the local college on Spread The Word To End The Word(a movement to stop the use of “retard”)The National day was Wednesday
    Watched Crash courses on Ecology
Saw Lincoln at the local library
    Started reading Killing Lincoln
Helped order Easter Flowers for church
Worked on sewing an Easter dress for our 3 year old neighbor
Made flourless brownies with ganache for my best friends daughter’s baby shower
    Complted her math lessons
Helped me plan for Easter brunch
Our (her) weeks are busy and unpredictable yet fun and full of learning.

  10. Congrats on the iPad Mini!! Anna saw it and now she wants one — I told her to start saving her money! Karen, I am so glad that you could get this for her. It made me smile when I saw the picture.

  11. My 13 year old son Ryan’s reactions
Its cool she got an Ipad Mini but why wouldnt she want an Ipad? I love my Ipad
Girls arent THAT much mature than boys
    I like learning about WWII
I wish we had a co-op like that.(The only one in our area is way 2 pricey and demanding)
I’m glad she gets to intern at a vets like I intern at the bank(That he does started 3 weeks ago at the local bank 2 hours a week)
All that artsy stuff would be boring
I love This Book is Not Good For You(he is a mega bookworm
Khan has a computer science class cool Can I do it?(yes you can Ryan)
We seem to be simalar to you. I am a single dad homeschooling and raising my 13 year old son on a limited income(I do some work from home) He is a literature based unschooler.(Basiclly he explores what he wants through books)

  12. You all have such full weeks. So much great stuff going on!!! I am glad you all were able to get a Ipad mini. That is so awesome.
    Blessings, Dawn

  13. What a great week! I think you had much to show and say. Your weeks are always filled with such wonderful smiles, activities and interest-led learning. How wonderful that you have an active co-op. We don’t have anything like that here. The only ones that are here are mandatory all-day types of things with lots of academic courses, which really isn’t my cup of tea. Love the photo of your both together! 🙂 Have a great weekend. Many blessings, friend, Lisa 🙂

  14. I *love* the photo of the three of you! Isn’t it fabulous when our children get an idea and take off with it? My oldest decided on Thursday to create a neighborhood newsletter and has already completed two editions 🙂 One of the greatest blessings of home education is the ability – and time – to foster all the creativity. Tell K I think the avocado experiment is awesome! And thank you for mentioning Khan has a coding class! I’m going to look at that myself – I’m always trying to learn more CSS to try on my other site 🙂 Blessings, Karen!
