Keilee has had to be at a Folk Art Camp all week to help with Puppets and Dance. It is only for an 1 1/2 but it at a time that messes up our entire days. Keilee has really enjoyed helping with this but she has been sick all week long. Horrible sinus headache and congestion and coughing. She soldiered on even though she felt bad. This picture is from the Theater’s website so it isn’t very good.
She has had play practice 3 times this week. It is going really great and all the little kids in the play are just so adorable. Emma Jo, the little 5 year old, is just the most precious thing. She sits in Keilee’s lap as much as she can and tells her “You are my best friend” and “I love you”. It wasn’t that long ago that the roles were reversed and it was my 6 year old doing the same thing to the teenage girls.
This is the first play College Street has ever done that there is a ‘love story’. The fact that the Duchess, who falls in love with O’Malley, is mine is kinda freaky. But it is SO sweet to see them and O’Malley is one of Keilee’s very best male friends so it is all good.
Keilee used to read in a tree in our back yard. She tried this week and she just doesn’t fit in the little nook anymore. I was trying to take a picture for Instagram and she said, “I am going to fall and break my neck but at least you will have a great photo!” 🙂
She read a lot this week. In fact I have started reading Harry Potter too for the 178th time and since I read WAY faster than her I am on the 2nd book too. We are sharing it. I read it when she is doing other things. She was reading on the hammock and I tried to sneak up on her but she caught me. After that she could NOT stop laughing. She still gets the ‘giggles’.
Thanks to Jess at Teachable Moments she is doing a board book. She has found her ‘theme’ and it has spent so much time planning it out. She is having some trouble with the paint sticking. Jess why can’t you just live NEXT DOOR??? 🙂
1. I have found one of my Mom’s journals. Just little snippets of her days. Look at this one, “Today is my little girls birthday. Is it possible we have a teenager”? I was 13, the same age Keilee is. I would not take $1,000,000 for this journal.
2. This dog showed up at my brother’s house about 2 weeks ago. He LOVED Eddie, my brother and would follow him everywhere and sleep on their carport. Eddie found the owner and every time the owner would get him, he would break out again and go to Eddie’s. Finally the man told Eddie, ‘He is not even my dog, he just showed up a few months ago and I am afraid he will kill himself trying to escape”. So Eddie decided to keep him. He already has 3 dogs. One day Eddie was playing with his black Lab and the new dog went insane and tried to bite the lab. He thought he was hurting Eddie. Then the dog went outside and tried to attack a neighbor’s dog. So Eddie did something he has never ever done. He put the dog in his car and drove 10 miles zig zagging all over. He lives in the country and tried to take is somewhere near people. He was hoping the dog would find a new home with no other dogs because he said the dog was so sweet just very protective. The next morning the dog was BACK on Eddie’s carport. Since Eddie doesn’t live in the city limits he called me to take him to our Animal Shelter. And yes I lied and told them I found it. We wanted him to find a good home. This whole thing just upset Eddie so much. He loved that little dog but couldn’t risk his dogs or his kids since he was so protective. I had to stop in the parking lot because I was crying. It just made us all so sad. This little scrappy dog, with a missing part of his ear and broken teeth, just wanting someone to love him. Keilee and I pray for him every night.
3. and 4. Keilee and Nomad on the patio where we spend SO much time.
This week’s theme on “7 Cool Homeschoolers” was “A Snack” and Keilee made fun and easy 4th of July Strawberries. Check them out! She was sick and just felt bad the entire time. Keep watching for the bloopers. Too funny.
Today we are doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Well no where to go or be. Keilee is outside working on her board book and I have been reading Harry Potter.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and a safe and happy 4th of July!
Homeschooling rocks!!

Keilee is an adorable and busy young lady! It is a shame our kids have to grow up so fast! I’ll have to catch up on her other videos! Too bad about the dog,but what can you do? We had a similar experience a few years ago. A stray dog decided to live in our yard and then attacked someone walking by. We ended up having to pay his doctor bill because neighbors had seen the dog hanging out at our house for a while. Apparently, legally we assumed ownership of the dog! Anyway.. your mom’s diary is definitely a treasure! Thanks for sharing a slice of your life at FF. Pleas do come again. I love hearing from everyone!
Don’t you just hate when you have something mid-day that screws up the rest of the day? Ugh. I find that if we do ANYTHING–even a simple errand, it takes us forever to get back into the swing of things. That’s why I would just rather stay home all the time. lol.
Sorry to hear Keilee was sick, I hope she is feeling better.
I am going to pray for that little dog!
Because of Kei, Lilah is on book 3 and Grace decided to re-read book 1! She is an inspiration to so many…
Are you priming the pages with Gesso? It looks like she is. If the paint is not sticking, try using some sand paper or a nail file if you don’t have any and gently sanding the page before priming it. Last week I used spray paint to prime it and that worked well. I used silver metallic and then we sponge painted over it. Make sure the book dries open for at least 24 hours and a sealer of Mod Podge or acrylic spray will help the paint adhere. Let me know if this helps!
As always I love your weeks. Please tell Keilee we hope she is feeling better.
So, maybe I am just hormonal but between your mom’s journal and the dog story,
I am in tears.
Hope Kei is feeling better:)
Beautiful photos!
What a trooper to feel icky but STILL meet her obligation! It looks like a fun workshop! Her hair seems SO LONG! Does it grow like crazy? Beautiful! Hammock reading is the best! I have a hammock under some maples for nice dappled shade. Perfect…if only the bugs weren’t so bad. Ugh! Love her Thursdays videos. The bloopers are awesome! Favorite part…not that they rest isn’t good too…but I always get a chuckle out of them!
A week filled with creativity … but that seems par for the course for you. Hope Keilee is feeling better.
Karen, I love your posts—all your photos, your news—they make me feel connected to you as a friend, and as a mother, and a fellow homeschooler. So many levels of friendship!
Do you know my boy is now Facebook friends with Kei? And he checked out her 7CoolHomeschoolers videos, and thought they were great. This is how true friendships begin. And to think—we live on the other side of the world from each other!
I love Aristocats. My girl and I just watched it again, first time in years, and I was singing along to every single song! I think Kei will be wonderful at being the Duchess. How great that she is with such dear friends as she does something she loves. My boy just performed at his Circus Open Day, and he was the only boy in his performance troupe—but he doesn’t mind one bit. He’s so comfortable and relaxed around them, and they are around him. It feels a bit like family. One big happy performing family. I’m guessing it’s the same for you and Kei.
I love the picture of Kei in the tree (not quite IN the tree—too big!) and in the hammock. What a wonderful light your girl has inside her. So much love to you both!
I keep meaning to mention that The AristoCats Is one of Philip’s favorite movies particularly when he was going through treatment. He has a stuffy Toulouse that was with him all through that journey. There was one point where he was going to be in isolation for a while and everything that went in had to be washed. Toulouse had to endure a B A T H. Philip sat by the washer and ‘Read’ to him the whole time. He was not quite 4 at the time.
I’m sorry to read the Keilee has been feeling sick, but what a dedicated girl to push through the week. The tree pictures are kinda sad, since she doesn’t fit in a favorite spot anymore. We have a couple of those here, and it is bittersweet to watch Amber grow up sometimes.
I hope you both have a great weekend and holiday. Amber says “hi” to Keilee.
I sympathise about the sinus headache – I get those too, they’re draining. Well done Keilee for managing to keep up her commitments even so.
I love all the pics of Keilee reading, especially with the giggles. C(9) likes reading up trees, it’s funny to think one day she might not fit! 😀
Have a wonderful weekend!
My girls and I are all excited you two are reading Harry Potter because LOVE those books! We started our own Harry Potter book club last year and have worked our way through the first 3 books making wands and eating Harry Potter feasts.
Sorry Keilee has been sick 🙁 I hope she feels better real soon. I keep saying that as soon as Monkey and Owlet start out growing their board books we’re going to use theirs in art projects 🙂
Oh, don’t you wish we could freeze time and keep our girls just as they are for a bit longer? I look at my oldest who turns 13 in the fall and I cannot believe the changes I see. It’s exciting, wonderful, overwhelming and scary all rolled into one! We’ve been reading a lot too; in fact I’m thinking of co-reading “Beautiful Girlhood” with my 12YO. She’s ready {sniff}. I hope Keilee is feeling better soon! Have a wonderful weekend!
I hope keilee feels better real soon. I hope you had a wonderful nothing day. Your week was filled with so much. I love to check in with you all each week.
Blessings, Dawn
I am sorry Kei has been sick. It looks like it has been a good week despite that and the poor dog incident. I am curious to see the board book. We made those strawberries one fourth. Loved them.
