Our days mostly flow now. Every day is not perfect but everyday is beautiful. After 2 years of being mostly ‘hands off’ of Keilee’s learning, this year I am hands on and it is working so well. Algebra being the best example. She can struggle through each lesson but why? If she was in ‘public school’ she would have a teacher. It makes the lessons go easier if there is both of us figuring it out as we go along.
1. At Dress Rehearsal for “Miracle on 34th Street”
2. One of her Halloween Smash Journal pages! I LOVED this one.
3. Doing Algebra
4. Sign ups for our Life groups at Church.
5. Cold in the grocery store. She has been hiding in the toilet paper since she was young.
Keilee was asked to dance in front of our theater for our 3rd Friday celebration. She invited her best friend who spent the night with us. They had SO much fun. There were also a couple of her ‘kittens’ from Aristocats there and dogs, there are always dogs….
Co-op is going great!! I was the most worried about Art Journaling and that is my favorite class! Drama is going great too.
Keilee is still loving gymnastics. I can never get a picture of her doing anything because it is so blurry. They are working on back hands springs and they scare me to death!!! Keilee LOVES practicing though.
Keilee played with her Snap Circuits this week too. It had been a while and I thought they would never be played with again but she put things together for a couple of hours.
Keilee was afraid Nomad was cold this week. [It was COLD here in Bama!!!!] so she put her hoodie on him!
This week she worked on Algebra, Biology, Ecology, Modern History, her Animal Notebook, a documentary on Animals called “Born to Be Wild”, reading, knitting, Smash Journaling, Jesus Calling, CNN Student News every day, Co-op, Mapping the World With Art, gymnastics, play practice, 2 Halloween get togethers and so much more.
I think this 8th grade year is my favorite to date. I have times I wish Keilee was 7 again but I am loving 13!!!!!!!
Lots of Halloween do’s going on today also. And tomorrow is our favorite festival of all; The Renaissance Faire!!! Good times.
Homeschooling Rocks!

Oh my! Nomad in the hoodie is about the cutest thing I’ve seen today. Way to look after your puppy, Kei!
I’m glad to hear that things are going so well for you two. It’s always a pleasure to see how you’re doing.
I so miss having my teen around the house. Sigh. It’s nice to see you enjoy it.
I had a mom of two young kids ask me yesterday how it was living with a teenage girl in this day and age. I said, “Awesome! Of course, she’s a teen and there are ups and downs, but it’s overall great. I not only love my kid, I like her a whole lot, too.” I’m really looking forward to summer when she’s back for a while.
Ever single week I am in awe of all that y’all do! I love that creativity is never sacrificed:) Such awesome, beautiful days! And Nomad in a hoodie is too funny. Our dogs would never tolerate that, but the girls would love to try. I have to agree that thirteen is pretty fun (suprisingly;)
Wow! You guys are always on the go! You live a rich, well rounded life, that’s for sure. I’ve been a hands off kind of homeschool mom too, but this year I felt like we should get little more formal, especially with Jeremiah. He’s almost 12 now. He is not nearly as self motivated as Keilee! He lives and breathes online games. It’s very hard to get him to do anything else. Love the dog in the hoodie!
I don’t know why, but I forgot you had a blog. Thanks for stopping by mine which made it easy for me to find yours. 🙂
I love your daughter’s smash journal pages, they are so creative. This doesn’t surprise me though, as your daughter is very creative. I love all her photos on Instagram.
I agree with you about enjoying them as they get older. I always thought I wouldn’t enjoy teenagers, but I am having so much fun with the twins now that they are teenagers. 13 was great, and 14 is even better. 🙂
13 is AWESOME 🙂 I speak from shared experience.
I loved seeing Nomad in Keilee’s hoodie, I loved hearing about you guys working together on algebra, and I love seeing your photos, always. 🙂
“tis the season for hot chocolate and hoodies! Nomad is a wonder-dog. There are times we look at Jake and ask him why he can’t be just a bit more like Nomad!
Loving the smash journal! What fun hiding among the TP! Keeping the traditions alive! Lol. Looks like a great week of fun and studies! Enjoy the Halloween this week!
I love all the photos you post each week. I keep meaning to take more photos but the habit obviously hasn’t got ingrained yet becasu ethis week I didn’t take a single one!
Nomad is really rocking that hoodie! I am amazed at how academically motivated and well rounded Kei is, and she always looks so joyful.
I agree with you that as I get more hands-off with the boy’s work, I become more hands-on in working with them on it. Your classes look fantastic. Kei sure seems like a natural at gymnastics. I have that with the boys stuff too…it seems like they are never going to play with it again, and then they do. It might be cold there in ‘bama now, but I have sunshine that I see from there every week…you two.
I so love checking in with you guys. There is so much wonderful stuff going on in your home. I love that you love the age of 13.
Blessings, Dawn
